Going to New York this week to see Justin Lieberman's show at Martos Gallery and to make some pictures with Justin and A.A. Bronson. I don't know if A.A. really knows it, but I've been a big fan of his from the days when General Idea and Keith Boadwee both showed at Stux Gallery. Hard as it is to believe now, that was once an excellent gallery whose roster included me, General Idea, Irwin Wurm and Andres Serrano. By the time I signed on, it was a sinking ship. Typical of my timing. Everyone good there had pretty much abandoned the place within 9 months of me arriving. I stuck it out for a couple years. I've not had New York representation since, for myriad reasons. I'm feeling like that could possibly change this year but only want to do things that feel right.
As I mentioned above, I'm starting a series of photos of cuddling and snuggling. Sounds dumb but I think it might actually work. The first shots were of Justin Lieberman and I. There's one posted further down this page. The next ones will be of Justin and AA and I, both in pairs and as a cuddling 3some. I hope the world is ready. Beyond that, I've got some plans for more new photos. I'm picturing them as somewhere between my early photo projects and Club Paint. Hoping to get a few satisfactory things done before my Hacienda show in June. I've only just started to sort that out. Going through boxes of old pictures, sorting and organizing and preparing to scan and dust a bunch of things. It's very rewarding looking at all of the pictures. As much as I can be self deprecating, when I look at it all, I generally think, "Job well done, Boadwee". You're a real artist."
I'm still pretty high from the Paramount Ranch event. I could never overstate how important Liz and Pentti have become in my life. Meeting them was a serendipitous event. Exactly the right thing at exactly the right time. They are the source of so much good. There has been tons of trickle down from my association with them. Meeting Fabian Marti/Hacienda folks, showing at Miami Basel, having work seen by 247365, etc.
I also can't say enough good things about Eve Fowler who I was fortunate to meet through Nicole Eisenman. Eve is a great artist and a keen intellect and has boundless enthusiasm for life and art. Artist Curated Projects, though modest in appearance, is very substantive. Thank you Eve, you're the best.
I was trying to be done with this but would be remiss in not publicly professing my deep love for Justin Lieberman. A complex and astute thinker, a great artist and one of the most loving and generous souls one could ever meet. Justin is everything.
It's going to be a great year. Especially with Kenny Beans in the mix. He's a solid rock. I'm going to remind myself to pause during the rush and savor it.
Cheers, K. Boadwee
