BRITISH INVASION

IT SEEMS THAT EVERY OTHER YEAR THE AMERICAN MUSIC PRESS STARTS TALKING ABOUT A NEW "BRITISH INVASION". IT NEVER REALLY HAPPENED DURING THE "BRITPOP" ERA. OASIS MADE A DENT BUT BLUR, PULP, ELASTICA, SUEDE, SUPERGRASS AND THE MANICS DIDN'T ACHIEVE MUCH MORE THAN CULT POPULARITY HERE. NOW THAT FRANZ HAS CONQUERED THE STATES (THOUGH "YOU COULD HAVE IT SO MUCH BETTER" HASN'T FAIRED VERY WELL RELATIVE TO THE FIRST RECORD AND IS ONLY BOTHERING THE VERY BOTTOM REACHES OF BILLBOARD'S TOP 200 - WHICH IS A SHAME BECAUSE IT'S ACTUALLY VERY GOOD) WE'RE APPARENTLY IN FOR AN ONSLAUGHT OF BANDS FROM THE U.K. THAT ARE GOING TO BE MASSIVE STATESIDE. OUR L.A. CORRESPONDENT HAS SORTED US OUT WITH THIS ARTICLE FROM THE L.A.TIMES ABOUT THE LATEST BRITISH INVASION.
