Ian MacMillan crops up in this blog a lot (Ian, I hope you don't mind that I've posted the somwhat comical photo of you in my Cary Grants specs, you still look adorable!). He's one of my closest friends and I absolutely worship him. We have almost EXACTLY the same taste in men and we really make each other laugh A LOT. Like me, Ian has an exceptional boyfriend who dotes on him (hello Andy!). Ian's a brilliant filmmaker and very much respected by his industry and peers. if you haven't seen his work, you should. He makes documentaries about art and culture. His subjects include Donald Judd, Philip Larkin and Bruce Nauman among others. I'll try to find source material about him and post it here. Ian has impeccable taste in just about everything (we have a lot of overlap in our music taste but he definitely tends to the darker, artier, brainier side of things) and is as well read as probably anyone I've ever known. He has a blog ( see "links") that's thoughtful, intelligent and, frankly, better written than mine. It doesn't resort to the sensational journalistic tactics used here. The reason I'm blogging about him today is because he posted an article from Harper's magazine on the rise of religious fundamentalism in America. It's dreary and depressing but important to read I think. You'll find it in his blog entry FEELING THE HATE.
